My Story
On a beautiful spring day in late-April, my world shattered. What was supposed to be a carefree mother/daughter day out, quickly turned upside down when my seemingly healthy mom suffered a sudden and horrific seizure in the middle of a restaurant. A few days later, after a hospital stay and many, many tests, we heard the word "Glioblastoma". A deadly brain cancer.
Thus started her torturous, heart-wrenching, three-year battle with cancer. Nothing could have prepared us. Looking back at the grueling battle that ensued, and all it took from my mother and our close-knit family, I’m not sure I could’ve imagined anything worse.
When she passed away, I was utterly lost. Our entire family was lost. She was the cornerstone of our family; everyone's favorite person. To be honest, I still feel lost without her, and probably always will. No doubt everyone who has suffered the devastation of cancer feels this pain. If you know this feeling, then you know that messages of hope and encouragement (no matter how small) are appreciated wherever they can be found.
The MourningDove Co. was created for this reason. It was created in memory of my mom, and for all of us dealing with cancer's impact on our lives. Its message was designed to be a reminder of our strength to rise and carry on in the face of suffering. For even the smallest message of strength and encouragement can help to improve a mood, change a mindset, and bring about a positive impact in our world.
In the midst of suffering, there remains hope. May we all rise up out of the ashes.
